  • Assistant Teacher Position

    • Duties of the position:
      Assist the classroom teacher in the general supervision and management of the four year-old class. The assistant teacher will be supervised by the teacher each day the class is in session.
    • Hours needed:
      4s class: Monday through Thursday, 11:30-3:15
    • Responsibilities:
      • Assist in planning and implementing the daily program under the direction of the teacher.
      • Assist in planning and preparing the learning environment, setup up interest centers, and prepare needed art materials.
      • Help with set-up for each class, choosing appropriate materials for each theme.
      • Assist in the care and maintenance of equipment and other housekeeping tasks.
      • Put out toys and bikes for outdoor play
      • At circle time, help reinforce good behavior and help guide children as necessary.
      • During free play time, interact with the children by playing, reading, doing puzzles, etc.
      • At the end of class, help tidy the classroom.
      • Serve as a substitute teacher when the teacher is absent.
      • Communicate with the board regarding building, maintenance, and supply issues as needed.
      • Create bulletin board displays with children’s artwork.
      • Communicate effectively with parents regarding children’s daily progress, in coordination with the teacher.
      • Maintain a professional attitude with staff, children, and parents.
      • Treat all children with dignity and respect.
      • Attend parent conferences, class session meetings, staff meetings, and board meetings in the evenings.
      • Attend required training programs and conferences. 
    • Qualifications:
      Must be at least 18 years of age and hold a high school diploma. This person must be sensitive to the feelings and needs of others, be able to relate well to children, and be willing to fulfill responsibilities in accordance with the school’s "learning through play" philosophy. The individual must also be able to show initiative in the classroom and receive guidance when necessary. Previous experience working with children in a preschool setting is preferred.

      Must be willing to be CPR and First Aid certified.
