A born enthusiast, Wesley continues to grow his passion for classic cars and trucks. Fostered by the support of his parents, he spends a great deal of time learning about cars from more than a century ago. His favorite book is a car encyclopedia that shows pictures of over 200 of the most classic cars as far back as the Tin Lizzie.
Wesley has a particular excitement for the 1980-1986 Ford Bronco, which started because of a neighbor who has been restoring one since Wesley was born. Wesley would often wake up to the revving of the engine, and the roar of the muffler. There was something about the rusty chassis and monstrous tires. Wesley began transforming the living room couch into his own personal Ford Bronco, complete with spare tires and all the necessary bells and whistles. He enjoys morphing cardboard boxes into his own personal vehicles, and he has a pretty impressive tool set to make sure that no matter how old or antique the car might be, it’s always going to run.
Our family has taken trips to various classic car museums to explore some of the coolest cars ever engineered. During our first trip to the AACA Museum in Hershey, PA, the car ride was full of excitement and anticipation. When we finally arrived at the 71,000 square feet museum, it featured a special exhibit of unrestored classic cars, bikes, and trucks. Wesley was blown away by being able to see some of the cars that he had only read about. It was a day to remember that culminated in a trip to the Hershey Museum with lots of chocolate.
On a separate adventure we went to the Simeone Foundation Automotive Museum in Philadelphia, PA. Tucked away, this gem of a museum features 75 historically significant cars including Bugatti, Alfa Romeo, Aston Martin, and many more. Wesley had an amazing time, not only seeing the cars, but driving around the museum in a Power Wheels Maserati.
Both of these experiences have been awesome family trips that not only foster Wesley’s appreciation for classic cars and trucks, but make great family memories. Wesley dreams of one day driving behind the wheel of his very own classic car. We are planning to keep the trend going by visiting Michigan later this summer to see where it all started with Henry Ford. We hope to have more exciting stories to share.
